At this time of year, small independent businesses and those on our high street need the support of customers. It's easy to shop online with the big retailers. You know who I mean and I'm guilty of it too for the convenience. But spare a thought for how you can shop local and support your community.
Introduce yourself and your store. My name is James Rennie and I own Ryan James Studio, an independent menswear store in the heart of Glasgow that curates quality clothing, grooming and accessory brands from the UK and Europe.
Who are you/what do you do?My name is Rory Hutton, I am an accessories and print designer.
Is there a story behind the name (if it's not your own?)You would have to ask my parents.
Yes, that's right. I never thought for a minute that when I entered the PaperAwards organised by Top Drawer that I would have been shortlisted, never mind the winner.
It was a last-minute decision to enter that new category as usually I only ever entered my greetings cards, but it's always a tough one as there are so many brilliant brands out there.
Introduce yourself and your store.I’m Tori and I run Harbour Lane Studio in South Queensferry. Harbour Lane is a dinky but quirky space showcasing the work from over 70 different makers based all over the UK but with a strong focus on highlighting Scottish talent. We will have been open for 3 years at the end of November and are currently in the process of building an extension so that we can squeeze in a whole lot of new makers.
